If you are passionate about fashion and ambitious to work in one of the many areas of the industry which encompasses branding, marketing, merchandising, buying, styling, PR, live events, promotion or digital communications, then this BA fashion marketing university course provides a fantastic platform from which to launch your career.

This innovative degree provides two distinct routes into careers within the fashion industry.

You will study both fashion marketing and fashion promotion in your first year and then choose the specialist area you wish to follow in your second and third year. A core study running throughout the course delivers key learning for all Fashion Marketing and Promotion professionals.

Course Content


  • This fashion marketing & promotion degree is jointly delivered by experts in fashion, marketing, photography, digital communications and specialist software. Academic staff are from both the Faculty of Business and Law and the Faculty of Arts, Science and Technology dependent on the specifics of the module being taught.

    Flexibility with routes into the industry

    You may start your Fashion Marketing & Promotion course without a fixed idea of the career path you wish to follow. This fashion marketing degree is designed to provide lots of exposure to the hugely varied and exciting career options within the fashion industry then assist you to become ‘work ready’ and experienced enough to effectively launch your career upon graduation.

    The specialist routes enable you to make more informed career choices as you progress throughout the course.

    You will study a combination of modules dependent on your desired career destination. The programme has a core of activity with optional pathways towards either a more business, marketing-based career or more visual fashion promotions and communications route. Personal Tutors from both fashion and marketing expertise will work with you to assist in deciding on the desired route and specialism for your second and third year.

    Placement Year Opportunity

    You are encouraged to undertake a year-long placement in between Stages Two and Three of study. If you meet the entry criteria, and choose to take up a placement year you will find it an invaluable experience that helps you to apply your learning in your final year and prepares you for your career. We offer a lot of support in helping you to find a placement, which can be in the UK or overseas.

Emphasis on the production of digital communications which demonstrate a variety of problem-solving techniques from concept to consumer in a multi channel environment will be inherent.

To explain what marketing is and to show the way in which marketing impacts on organisations, customers and other stakeholders.         The purpose of this module is to underpin the final major project through a variety of theoretical, reflective, practice-led and presentational investigations. As future designers there is a requirement for students to consider the changing nature of design contexts, and the need to communicate personal creative identities within the professional environment. The module will emphasise the need to recognise the fashion/textiles/footwear/accessories/ leather and fashion promotions industries as agents of change and the resulting implications.This module will allow for visual and textual analysis of this critical area, through the exploration of wider creative practices, contemporary marketing synergies, recognizing the impact of global outcomes, environmental considerations, the digital landscape and product specialization, as a means of supporting decisions made within the final major project.

        This module will consolidate and expand upon promotion and communication principles through processes and contextual analysis introduced in level 5. A self initiated final project will encompass creative, conceptual, technical, theoretical, practice based skills by utilising knowledge and experience gained throughout the degree to underpin the context. This will necessitate development of 2D concepts taken through to a 3D practical resolution.

Students will develop strategies and plan campaigns for a range of different scenarios, using both analytical and creative skills to identify appropriate activities and media.

        Through use of current academic and marketing trend research students will experiment and challenge current conventions to develop and explore the new ways of reaching identified audiences. The output represents the physical embodiment of professional and contemporary industry standards, marketing assets must be either fully realised product(s) or an intense investigation accompanied by working prototypes.

        The purpose of this module is to provide students with an opportunity to carry out an investigation of a current industry or market sector topic or issue that is relevant to their degree or professional development. This will typically result in the identification of a problem, trend or research issue that is subsequently examined during the project. Students apply relevant academic or marketing concepts to structure their investigation and to communicate their analysis.

    Modules are taught using our innovative ‘Active Blended Learning’. This approach is student centred with an emphasis on problem-based learning and enquiry. Varied activities within our fashion marketing course include conducting primary research, study trips in the UK and abroad, industry guest speakers, live client projects, working in teams, adobe creative suite training, technical training on specialist equipment, Cad software training and staging live events.

  • The Integrated Foundation Year (IFY) offers a new and exciting route into studying for a degree, attracting ambitious and driven students who are willing to learn and advance.

    If you have non-standard qualifications or do not quite meet the admissions requirements for the Fashion Marketing & Promotion degree we can offer you a fantastic opportunity to study a four year Fashion Marketing & Promotion programme which includes a Integrated Foundation Year. The Integrated Foundation Year will help you develop the theoretical/practical and academic skills you need, in order to successfully progress to the full award.

    Our four-year courses will enable you to successfully follow the degree pathway of your choice while gaining essential study skills. The foundation year of your chosen degree will be studied on a full-time basis and is aimed at supporting the transition to higher education. Years two, three and four are then studied as a standard degree programme.

  • The optional placement year enables you to put into practice what you have learned on your degree and gain practical industry experience. Your Fashion Marketing & Promotion degree is extended to four years and the placement is undertaken at the end of your penultimate year, this is for one year (48 weeks) and paid. If you meet the entry criteria, and choose to take up a placement year, you will find it an invaluable experience that helps you to apply your learning in your final year and prepares you for your career.     On our BA Fashion Marketing & Promotion degree, modules are taught using our innovative ‘Active Blended Learning’. This approach is student centred with an emphasis on problem-based learning and enquiry.     If you are studying this fashion marketing university course you can expect taught study to be a combination of seminars/workshops/accessing online materials usually for 12 hours per week. We recommend that you spend 24 hours per week in self-directed study time.
