On the cyber security degree, you will manage the challenges faced in the designing, developing, and maintaining the secure online applications that are needed to run on computing devices to include, laptops, smartphones.

There is a growing demand for those with the expertise to create reliable, robust, and secure online applications.

During this web development course, you will learn about the design and development of Web-based Software. You will also learn the importance of putting Cyber Security at the heart of your design considerations. Entry Requirements


A typical offer for the Web Development and Cyber Security BSc could be:

  • BCC at A-Level or,
  • DMM at BTEC/Cambridge Technical or,
  • Pass (C and above) at T Level

We welcome applications from students with a mix of A levels and BTEC/Cambridge Technical qualifications.

Applicants will be expected to have achieved GCSE Mathematics (or equivalent) at grade C/4 or above. We welcome international applicants and applications from students with a range of non-traditional educational or professional qualifications.

  • Admission to this foundation web development course is normally:

    • DEE at A Level or,
    • MPP at BTEC/Cambridge Technical or,
    • Pass (D or E) at T Level

    We welcome applications from students with a mix of A levels and BTEC/Cambridge Technical qualifications.

    However, we would also like to hear from you if you have professional or industry experience instead, a range of other qualifications or self-developed subject knowledge that relates to the course you wish to study.

  • All International and EU students applying for a course with the University of Northampton must meet the following minimum English language requirements:

    • IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent) with a minimum of 5.5 in all bands
      for study at undergraduate level.

Web Development and Cyber Security Course Content


  • During the first year of study on Web Development and Cyber Security BSc, you will study a common six computing modules. These include: Computer Systems, Computer Communications, Web Development, Software Specification- Analysis and Design, Object Programming, and Database Design and Development. These modules cover the fundamental principles needed to be able to move on to a more specialised range of modules during the second and third year of your course.

    Optional modules in your second and third year on the degree in web development include: Ethical Hacking & Penetration Testing, Web Programming, Server Administration & Security, Advanced Database Implementation, Mobile Application Development, and Group Project.

    Your final year modules are: Cyber Security & Applied Cryptography, Cyber Security Management, Mobile Computing, Modern Databases/NoSQL databases, and Dissertation.

    You will be able to put the knowledge gained on the cyber security course into good use through practical activities that will equip you to pursue a career in Industry. Many of our graduates also embark onto obtaining Higher Degrees through research and development.

    The major practical aspects of the BSc cyber security degree occur in the second-year group project, where you will work as a team member on the design and development of a contemporary Secure web-based application. Also, in your final year Dissertation, you have the opportunity to work on an individual project on a relevant topic of your own choice.

    Please note the modules shown here relate to the academic year 25/26. The modules relating to the academic year 26/27 will be available from June 2026.

  • The Integrated Foundation Year (IFY) offers a new and exciting route into studying for a web development degree, attracting ambitious and driven students who are willing to learn and advance.

    If you have non-standard qualifications or do not quite meet the admissions requirements we can offer you a fantastic opportunity to study a four year programme which includes an Integrated Foundation Year. The Integrated Foundation Year will help you develop the theoretical/practical and academic skills you need, in order to successfully progress to the full award.

    Our four-year courses will enable you to successfully follow the degree pathway of your choice while gaining essential study skills. The foundation year of your chosen degree will be studied on a full-time basis and is aimed at supporting the transition to higher education. Years two, three and four are then studied as a standard degree programme.

  • UK Full Time: £9,535
  • UK Part Time: £1,585 per 20 credit module
  • UK Integrated Foundation Year: £9,535 for the foundation year; thereafter standard fees apply
  • International Full Time: £15,700
  • International Integrated Foundation Year: £15,700 for the foundation year; thereafter standard fees apply

Fees quoted relate to study in the Academic Year 2025/26 only and may be subject to inflationary increases in future years. UON will adjust UK fees annually in line with Government Policy.

  • There are no additional costs for this web development course for students beginning their studies in September 2025. Should this change, applicants and students will be contacted by the university with details of the costs.
