Physiotherapy BSc (Pre-registration) Welcome Pack

Welcome to BSc Physiotherapy (Pre-registration) – 2025

Welcome from the Physiotherapy Programme Team! You’ve joined a professionally accredited, HCPC recognised undergraduate route designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills and attributes to become a competent and compassionate physiotherapist.

This three‑year full‑time programme follows an Active Blended Learning model, creating a vibrant “community of enquiry”. Through lectures, simulations, problem-based learning, service‑user engagement and small-group work, you’ll develop critical thinking, evidence-based practice and practical problem‑solving—all rooted in person‑centred care.

Across Years 1–3, your learning journey is structured:

  • Year 1 introduces core modules: anatomy, functional movement, population health, and early exposure to cardiorespiratory, neuro, and MSK physiotherapy
  • Year 2 builds rehabilitation knowledge, research skills and simulated clinical experience as well as full clinical practice placements.
  • Year 3 fosters autonomy through further placements and a student-led dissertation project.

The Award Map can be viewed online.

Clinical placements span NHS, private, sports, charity and voluntary sectors, offering opportunities in clinical practice, leadership, education, research and innovation.

Upon successful completion, you’ll qualify to apply for HCPC registration and CSP membership, ready to practise across diverse clinical settings.

You’re now part of a supportive and dynamic learning community—this programme will challenge and inspire you, preparing you not only for today’s professional standards, but for future leadership in physiotherapy.

  • Your journey begins with our induction week, starting on Monday, 22 September 2025 with a full week of activities on campus. The week is designed to welcome you to the University community, introduce you to the programme, and help you meet your peers and the academic team. Equipment

You will be provided with a uniform for use in practical sessions. We will gather information on clothes sizes during induction week.

There is no need to buy or have any particular equipment prior to starting the course. The only piece of equipment you may choose to purchase is a stethoscope. We will advise you which ones to buy once you have started, as some models can be more expensive, and there is no need to overspend.

There is no required pre-reading as your application and interview will have assessed your skills and qualifications. The padlet includes a small pre-induction Anatomy based task to get you started.

If you have a questions regarding equipment or costs, please email me using the email address above.

Enhancing skills, building networks and engaging in the wider University community

Throughout the BSc Physiotherapy programme, you will have numerous opportunities to enhance your skills, build professional networks, and engage with the wider community.

Practice Placements: The course includes five practice placements across a variety of settings, including the NHS, private clinics, and voluntary organisations. These placements are essential for applying theory to practice and completing the 1000 hours required by our professional body. You will also have the chance to participate in role-emerging placements that focus on social innovation, leadership, or research.

Professional Development: You will be encouraged to engage in reflective practice, a cornerstone of physiotherapy. We provide resources to help you develop this skill. You will also be eligible to apply for student membership with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), which offers access to extensive resources and a student support network.

Additionally, the Physiotherapy Society is now established, with students across all of our physiotherapy programmes participating.

Employability: We are committed to ensuring you are ready for employment upon graduation. The curriculum includes specific employability workshops, and we host an annual Employability Fair with local and national employers, which includes support on preparing applications and interviews.
